(If you have to manually trace it for whatever reason don’t alter the shape of your design). If you don’t have the Designer Edition or can’t import svg’s, import the jpg and do an auto trace, this works just fine.(It’s frustrating when you get it all cut and get set to embroidery it and find out it’s not the right size, ask me how I know that). This way you will be able to check the measurements next time you cut.
(Don’t cut the measurement, just move that off your workspace when cutting). If you have the Designer Edition, open the svg and resize your applique to the size you wrote down earlier and I like to write it on my file.Once you get that done, open you digital cutting software (I have a Silhouette Cameo), open or import either the jpg or svg depending on which version you have.A box comes up and asks if you want to inflate your piece, I don’t but that up to you, just put that on zero. In Embird, select the applique piece (in the objects on the right) right click, scroll down to save cutting files and click on that. The second way is much easier as the embroidery software makers are starting to put a save to svg function in the software. Use your snipping tool that comes with Windows, (what I use is called FastStone Capture) and make a jpg of the applique image and save it to your desktop. The first way is to hide all colors except the applique piece, then deselect it so you don’t have that square around the applique, then go to 3D mat view at the bottom of your screen. The step can be done two different ways depending on your embroidery software.(Make sure you have the applique piece selected or you’ll get the size of the whole applique and you don’t want that). Next, take note of the size of the applique piece, in Embird the size is at the bottom right.Select the applique pieces, in Embird I right click separate all colors except the applique piece (you don’t have to do this, you can just select the applique section).Open you applique design, purchased or one you made yourself.Open your embroidery software (I use Embird, but any software will work).
It’s not as hard as you might think, there’s just a few steps involved. I finally figured out how to cut a machine embroidery applique design on my digital cutter.
